HackerRank Alternatives for Candidates (2026)

HackerRank alternatives for candidates, by round: what to do with a HackerRank link, where to practice AI-allowed rounds on real code, and other tools with prices.

Last checked . Every fact links to its source; reported claims are labeled.

On this page
  1. First: did an employer send you a HackerRank link?
  2. Our pick for AI-allowed rounds: AICodingRound
  3. What HackerRank's mock interviews include
  4. Pick by round, not by brand
  5. The other tools, in one line each
  6. Four problems to start with
  7. How to practice on AICodingRound

Search for "HackerRank alternatives" and most results are written for companies choosing a hiring tool. This page is for candidates, and it answers two questions: is an employer sending you a HackerRank link, and which round are you actually preparing for? If that round lets you use AI on an existing codebase, our pick is AICodingRound, and this page explains why. For how AI rules differ across companies, see our AI coding interview overview.

We make AICodingRound. We are not affiliated with HackerRank or any other company named here. Every page and price below was opened on October 29, 2026.

Practice the AI round on real code. Fix a bug from a ticket, build a feature or review an AI-written pull request, inside a working multi-file app, with your own Claude or Codex as a coach. Try A wholesale order fails at checkout (easy, TypeScript, about 30 min). The beta is free and places are limited: get a place.

If yes, get to know the platform before the clock starts.

  • Take the sample test. HackerRank's help center for employers tells them to "Recommend the HackerRank Sample Test to your Candidates," and says candidates "can find the sample test on their login page" (HackerRank). Use it to check your language, your setup and how input and output work.
  • If the invite is for Chakra, HackerRank's AI interviewer, it is a video interview: you share your screen, keep your face visible on the webcam, and connect only one monitor (HackerRank candidate support). Our HackerRank Chakra guide covers it in detail.

Then practice the skill the round tests, whatever tool the company uses.

Our pick for AI-allowed rounds: AICodingRound

More loops now include a round where AI is allowed and the code already exists: fix a bug, add a feature, or review a pull request. AICodingRound is built for that round.

  • Real apps, not snippets. 49 public problems inside working multi-file codebases in Python, TypeScript and SQL on Postgres: a room-booking API, an online shop, an invoicing app and a payments API.
  • Tickets like the real thing. Bug reports that describe a symptom, feature requests and product specs, AI-written pull requests to review, tests to write, and SQL reports that come back wrong or slow.
  • A workspace in the browser. Editor, terminal, tests and a live preview. Nothing to install.
  • Your own Claude or Codex, as a coach. It reads the code and explains, but it does not write the fix. You do the change and the checking, which is what an interviewer scores. You can also leave it closed and work alone.
  • Tests and a debrief. On submit, tests check that your fix works and that nothing else broke. Then a few questions ask about your own change.
  • A report by skill. Strong, Solid or Developing for each skill, including how you used AI.

What HackerRank's mock interviews include

HackerRank's mock interviews page lists seven sessions run by an AI interviewer: Technical Screen (30 min), Coding (60 min), System Design (60 min), AI Fluency (30 min), Behavioral (30 min), Frontend React (60 min) and Backend Node (60 min). Its help center says HackerRank Community includes one free Coding interview and one free Technical Screen, each taken once; other sessions need credits (HackerRank help). The public pages do not show what credits cost (HackerRank help).

Four problems to start with

How to practice on AICodingRound

  1. Pick a problem in the library that matches the round you expect: bug hunt, feature, review, tests or SQL.
  2. Set a timer for the problem's time limit and talk out loud as you work, as you would on a call.
  3. Reproduce the problem before you ask the AI anything. Then ask narrow questions, and check one claim per answer in the code.
  4. Make the change yourself and run the full test suite before you submit.
  5. Answer the debrief, read your report, and pick the next problem for the skill marked Developing.

A platform's sample test teaches you its editor. Practice on real code teaches you the round. The beta is free and places are limited: get a place. For what an AI-allowed round looks like and a 2-week plan, read our guide to the AI coding round.
