SUP-2291: Two products changed on their own after the Wednesday bulk edit

Ticket #31877 · email · High

Component: Product admin (support's guess)

From: Rosa Alvarez, merchandising, Cartwheel · Received: Thu 22 Oct, 8:41 am

Hi, on Wednesday afternoon I uploaded the usual price-and-status sheet (about 140 rows) through the merch sheet tool. This morning a customer wrote in that the Everyday Cast Iron Skillet (KIT-1010) is showing $0.00 in the shop and she tried to buy three of them. It is an $83.99 pan, it has never been free. While I was checking I also found that the Pro Rain Jacket (APP-1012), which we discontinued in March and hid on purpose, is visible on the site again and people can add it to their cart.

I did not touch either of those two on purpose. Some rows in my sheet have blank cells, because I only fill in what I am changing, and the tool has always handled that fine before. The pan is the only row where I had cleared the price to retype it later. Other rows had blank status or description cells; those products look right to me, although I have not checked every description. Please fix the data and make sure this cannot happen again. We have a newsletter going out on Friday.

Rosa

Support note (Dana K.): I looked at both products in the admin screen. The pan's price is 0 and the jacket has no "archived" date any more. I can see who last edited them (Rosa's service account) but not what the request looked like, the tool writes no request log. Rahul wrote the importer and is on leave until the 3rd. I could not reproduce this by editing a product by hand in the admin screen. Nothing in the nightly sale-price job touches either product.

Ask: find out why those two products changed, fix it so that a sheet like Rosa's cannot silently turn a blank cell into a value (a zero price, an un-archived product), and tell us whether other parts of the shop could be affected the same way. Customers' carts and orders must keep working exactly as today.
